Building Partnerships and Growing Together: My Journey at Smith Marion
Hi, my name is Shona Rodman, and I’m an Executive Assistant at Smith Marion. I joined the firm in 2020, right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a challenging time for so many, and I felt incredibly fortunate to find a fantastic job as an administrative assistant during that period. Over the years, my role has grown, and I’ve taken on new responsibilities that have shaped my career in ways I never expected.
Growing My Role at Smith Marion
When I joined Smith Marion, I was excited to find stable work. Little did I know this would become a place where I could truly grow. After starting as an administrative assistant, I eventually became the office manager for our Redlands location. Now, I work as the executive assistant to Peter Wesh, one of our four principals.
Each step in my journey has brought new challenges and opportunities, and I’ve learned so much along the way. Recently, coordinating the merger and partnership between Marcia Campbell, CPA, and Smith Marion was one of the most exciting parts of my role.
Navigating the Complexities of a Merger
Many people don’t realize how much thought and effort goes into building a successful partnership. It’s not a “one and done” process—far from it. There are so many conversations, so much planning, and countless considerations. One of the biggest factors is making sure that the work cultures align.
You have to ask yourself, “How are employees going to react? How will our teams work together? Will our cultures complement one another?” These are the questions we’ve had to address throughout this process.
Thankfully, both of our firms share a similar approach to treating our clients. We are incredibly client-oriented, always focused on providing the best possible services and creating the best experiences for the people who trust us.
A Relationship Built on Collaboration
Our partnership with Marcia Campbell CPA wasn’t born overnight. For several years, we’ve worked closely with Marcia and her team, supporting her as she navigated the increasing demand for her services.
This collaboration has been invaluable. It’s allowed us to understand her unique niche and foster a relationship built on mutual respect and shared goals.
“We’ve had fantastic opportunities to get to know Marcia and her clients. This relationship has grown through mutual respect and shared goals,” I often reflect when describing this journey.
Looking Ahead: Opportunities for Growth
As we continue this partnership, I’m incredibly excited about the future. It’s an opportunity to strengthen both firms and create a seamless experience for Marcia’s clients as they become part of the Smith Marion family.
“We’re committed to continuing to provide the best experience possible for all clients, ensuring they feel valued and supported,” I believe wholeheartedly.
Being part of Smith Marion has been such a rewarding experience, and this merger reflects everything we stand for—growth, collaboration, and excellence. I’m grateful to play a role in shaping this exciting chapter for both firms.
