April 28, 2014 — Chad Porter, CPA, CFE and Partner with Smith Marion & Co. spoke on Government Accounting Standards for the Tennessee Association of Housing and Redevelopment Authorities Spring Workshop from April 20 to 22nd in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The TAHRA, a non-profit member organization, seeks to provide affordable housing to those of lower and middle incomes. Members include the housing authorities in Tennessee. Porter’s talk covered the changes in accounting for housing authorities. “The presentation covered GASB #61 to #71 to help the Authorities have a glimpse and understand the new rules to come from GASB,” stated Porter.
Porter graduated in 1996 from Cal State San Bernardino with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and a concentration in Accounting. He has worked for Smith Marion & Co. since May of 1996. Porter is a Certified Fraud Examiner, he specializes in audits of HUD funded organizations and housing authorities, audits of tax credit properties, audits of California Department of Education child care organizations and Single Audit (A-133) of federally funded organizations.
