May 28, 2014—Chad Porter, CPA, CFE and Partner with Smith Marion & Co. is speaking at the PHA Conference for the Affordable Housing Association of Certified Public Accountants on June 4th at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Porter’s session titled AICPA Guidance on Independence & Non-audit Services; is on The Yellow Book and Government Auditing Standard Independence rules for CPA performing non-audit services.

The AHACPA is a national association of CPAs and financial professionals; it was founded in 1998 in order to support and train auditors of multifamily housing. It is nationally recognized for its training and support of HUD annual financial statements. The PHA Conference is put on annually in order for attendees to learn how to implement the HUD accounting, audit and electronic submission requirements efficiently.

Porter graduated in 1996 from Cal State San Bernardino with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and a concentration in Accounting. He has worked for Smith Marion & Co. since May of 1996. Porter is a Certified Fraud Examiner, he specializes in audits of HUD funded organizations and housing authorities, audits of tax credit properties, audits of California Department of Education child care organizations and Single Audit (A-133) of federally funded organizations.
